Doyle Tillman, age 87, of Surrency passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at his residence.
It is with full hearts yet great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved and dedicated Daddy and Grandaddy. He was born November 9,1936 in Surrency to the late Thomas Malcolm Tillman and the late Mildred Eason Tillman. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather that leaves behind a legacy of love and for whom we have a profound appreciation for. He never missed his grandkids’ playing ball and loved to see the pine straw fall. He was a devoted member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he was the choir director for almost 50 years and enjoyed singing every opportunity he had. He served the Lord faithfully alongside his loving wife of 59 years. He was a farmer and carpenter for Local 865. Mr. Tillman was proceeded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Miles Tillman, and ten siblings. His Grandkids will never forget his saying “Roses are red violets are blue we would say I love you and he would say ME TOO”!
Survivors include his daughter, Sheila (Johnny) Kennedy; son, Landry (Joyce) Tillman; grandchildren, Darrick (Linsey) Tillman, Alisha (Derek) Jones, John (Caitlin) Kennedy, Katie (Zach) Cowart, Kaleb Kennedy; and step grandchildren, Candi (Shaun) Lewis and Jena (Jared) Craven; and seven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Brown, Lay-minister Laurie Jo Upchurch, and Rev. R. M. Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Darrick Tillman, John Kennedy, Kaleb Kennedy, Derek Jones, Malcolm Tillman, Zach Cowart, Maddox Jones, James Jones, and Jagger Jones.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
