Richard Allen “Puggie” Smith, age 60, of Hazlehurst passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Puggie was born January 11, 1964 in Washington, D.C. and was a former construction worker. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Stone, Sr., his mother, Sherry Breeden Franks, and a nephew, Brandon Hand. He was a simple man who loved spending time at home with his family and was a prankster.

Survivors include his lifelong partner, Susan Creamer of Hazlehurst; daughter, Bambi Towns of Scotland; son, Allen Smith of Hazlehurst; sisters, Connie Sue “Susie” (Eugene) Hand of Hazlehurst, Judy “Dinkie” (Stacy) Swanson of Fitzgerald, and Amy (Billy) Hughes of Hazlehurst; brothers, Eugene “Peewee” (Tonya) Stone of Fitzgerald and Donnie Stone (Tonya Morris) of Hazlehurst; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild also survives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Hunter Brewer officiating. Interment will follow in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be J. R. Daniels, Eugene Hand, Colby Hughes, Randy Hesters, Brooks Hesters, and Justin Fisher.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
