Alene Simmons Thomas

Alene Simmons Thomas, age 85, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.

Mrs. Thomas was born July 10, 1939 in Appling County to the late Chester Simmons and the late Neltie Giddens Simmons. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Jerry David Thomas; sister, Ollie Mae Jackson; and brothers, Eugene Simmons and Luther Simmons. She was a faithful member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church and was active in the Friendship Ladies Circle, the YAH Group, and a devoted member of the church choir. Mrs. Thomas taught Sunday School at the Pavilion for over 40 years. She was a talented seamstress and touched many lives using her abilities to aide in alterations of all kinds for many in the community. Mrs. Thomas was a retired administrative assistant with Southern Nuclear at Plant Hatch and was a past member of the Appling Co. Relay for Life Committee and the Appling County Public Library Crochet Group. She also coordinated class reunions for the Appling County High School Class of 1957.

Survivors include her daughters, Latrelle (David) McCall of Warner Robins, Vickie (Michael) Dyal of Baxley, Amy (Rick) Craven of Cumming; son, Jerry (Cindy) Thomas of Baxley; son-in-law, Bob (Lou) McDonald; grandchildren, Kristin (Shane) Lassiter, Morgan (Bryan) Gay, Kaitlin (Hunter) Lee, Matthew Thomas, Will (Ashley) Thomas, Reagan Craven, and Kennedy Craven; great grandchildren, Kyndall and Lawson Lassiter, Braydon and Bryson Gay, Remi Lee, and Eden Jane Thomas; sister, Veronis Andrews of Albany; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Randall (Linda) Thomas, Rudolph (Jeannine) Thomas, Nell Carter, Eldora Thomas, and Shirley Clance; a special family friend, Angie Taylor; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Friendship Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Wayne Williamson, Rev. Rick Brown, and Rev. Barry Teutsch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Will Thomas, Shane Lassiter, Hunter Lee, Bryan Gay, Matt Thomas, Kyler Hutchinson and Dylan Hutchinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bug, Tripp and Caraline McCarty, Carol Rish, Appling County High School Class of 1957, Mr. & Mrs. Eddie James Hall, the Appling County Public Library Crochet Group, Ruby Lee Rooks, Grant & Tammy Lewis and all friends in attendance.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Friendship Congregational Christian Church.
