Barbara Sue Newman

Barbara Sue Newman, age 79, of Snipesville, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Memorial Meadows in Vidalia under the care of Community Hospice.

She was born on August 4, 1946, in Hazlehurst to the late William E. (Bill) Lytle and the late Otera Powell Lytle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Lynn Steverson a son, Ricky Steverson and a sister, Peggy Carter. She was an avid reader, loved to shop and travel, and a true southern belle, but her greatest love was her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her Sally Dog. Mrs. Newman was the former owner of Denton Quick Stop and retired from McCarty’s Used Cars.

Survivors include her husband, Garry Newman of Snipesville; brother, Randall (Tamra) Lytle of Hazlehurst; daughter-in-law, Rose Steverson; grandchildren, Candace Steverson, Tyler (Kayla) Steverson of Snipesville; great-grandchildren, Allie Rowland, Kaydence Taylor, and River Steverson; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Van McCall and Rev. James Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Palms Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Cook, Lucas Carter, Ted Hutcheson, Cade McCullar, Jake Lytle, and Earl Baucom,

Honorary pallbearers will be friends and family in attendance.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Swain Funeral Home Hazlehurst Chapel.
