Betty Jean (Tomberlin) Cothern

Betty Jean Tomberlin Cothern, age 79, of Baxley passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Hospice of South Georgia in Jesup.

Mrs. Cothern was born March 3, 1945 in Appling County to the late Major Tomberlin and the late Mary Kate Quillen Tomberlin.  She was a member of Zion Church of God and was a retired Registered Nurse at Appling Healthcare.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Terrell Cothern of Baxley; daughters, Judy Sheffield and Stacey Crosby both of Baxley; sons, Mitch “Nooney” (Samantha) Sheffield and Tracey Crosby both of Baxley. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at Zion Church of God with Rev. Danny Horne officiating. Interment will follow in Paulk-Tomberlin Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Lee Fowler, Jody Arnold, David Roddenberry, and Tyler Odom.

Honorary pallbearers will be Staff of Hospice of South Georgia.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
