Bill Hunter, age 79, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Appling Healthcare.
Mr. Hunter was born on March 19, 1944 in Appling County to the late W. H. “Doc” Hunter and the late Inez Carter Hunter. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Hunter was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War and was an expert marksman. He was a retired truck driver for the United States Postal Service where he was consecutively named Top Driver and had an A+ Code of Conduct. He was preceded in death by his son, Shane Hunter and sister, Carrie Geiger.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty J. Hunter of Baxley; daughter, Leigh (Drew) Reynolds-Miller of Baxley; son, William Travis Reynolds of Baxley; sisters, Fodia Geiger of Folkston, Peggy (Winston) Mincey and Lela (Gary) Williams both of Baxley; brother, Floyd (Claudine) Hunter of Baxley; Four grandchildren, Jordon Horton, Keaton Reynolds, Ean Miller and Taylor L. Miller; and one great- grandchild, Charolette Elizabeth Reynolds and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Brown and Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Active pallbearers will be Kyle Hunter, Kevin Hunter, Christopher Geiger, Benny Dixon, Ted Mincey and Keaton Reynolds.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
