Charles Clifton “Charlie” Morris, age 84, of Surrency, died Friday, March 31, 2017 at his residence.
He was born February 6, 1933 in Surrency to the late Charlie and Lucy Lee Morris. He attended Surrency High School and went to college at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. He was in the Navy onboard the USS Oriskany during the Korean Conflict and initially worked with Pet Milk and Anheuser-Busch in Jacksonville, FL where he met his wife, Sandra Bogdanowicz Morris, and returned to dairy-farming, running Morris Dairy Farm #2 with his brother James Franklin “Buddy” Morris for many years. He owned and operated Morris’ Machine Shop in Baxley, GA for the last 30-plus years of his life.
He was a member of St. Rosa of Lima Catholic Church in Baxley and loved the Lord, his wife, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He was known as a hard working blue collar business man. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, Sandy, kids or grandkids. Charlie was known by his family, friends and the community to have a philanthropic heart; he was such a giver to those in need, from his family, to his friends and the local community.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mr. Charlie Morris and Mrs. Lucy Lee Morris, his brother, James Franklin “Buddy” Morris, and his daughter & son-in-law, Cheryl Ann Morris (Edgar “Bo”) Herndon.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Sandra Marie Morris of Surrency; children, Holly Ann Hamilton (Corbett Bowen) of Baxley, Rhonda Sue “Susie” (Tom) Smith of Bradenton, Florida, and Brian Todd “B.T.” (Julie) Morris of Santee, CA; brothers Tom (Juanita) Morris and Lemuel (Madie) Morris both of Bristol; sister, Ola Faye (Gene) Turner of Surrency; sister-in-law, Joyce Morris of Surrency; and grandchildren, Heather Ann (John) Boyett, Meggie Upchurch, Ashley and Whitney Herndon, Alayna Hamilton, Kolby and Eliana Smith, Blake and Charlie Morris. Great Grandchildren, Hayden Upchurch, Aiden Hamilton and Dakota Mincey, also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at St. Rosa of Lima Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Father Rafael Estrada presiding as priest and eulogist. Interment will follow at Miliken Cemetery, near Surrency with military honors.
Praying of the Holy Rosary will be Sunday at Swain Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
Active Pallbearers will be Tim, Robbie, Charlie, Stevie, Davy and Chandler Morris.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom and Juanita Morris, Lemuel and Madie Morris, and Gene and Ola Faye Turner.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
