David Albert Deats

David Albert Deats, age 64, of Hazlehurst passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Jeff Davis Hospital.

Mr. Deats was born July 9, 1960 in Honeoye, NY and was an active member of the First Baptist Church Hazlehurst. Mr. Deats was the owner of Deats Excavating & Utilities for 30 years and loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with family and his hunting dogs. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Deats.

Survivors include his wife, Tammi Grantham Deats of Hazlehurst; daughter, Megan (Jeremy) Wood of Hazlehurst; son, Jesse (Brooke) Deats of Baxley; mother, Deloris Emerson of NY; sisters, Donna Alger of Ocala, FL, Beth (Tom) Finster of Livonia, NY and Martha Vaughn of Claxton, IN; brothers, Craig Deats of Honeoye, NY and Joey (Melissa) Deats of Tampa, FL. Four grandchildren, Rylie Beth Nobles, Charleigh Deats, Asher Wood, and Alli Deats also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Hazlehurst with Rev. Brad Waters and Rev. Roger Daniels officiating.

Interment will follow in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Zack Marchant, Robert Miller, Tony New, Lantz Orvin, Kevin Simmons, Robbie Livingston, Michael Lay, Steve Underwood, and Chad Underwood.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Silicon Ranch, Angie Varnadore, Nova Source and employees of Deats Excavating & Utilities.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
