Eleanor (Williamson) Griffey

Eleanor Williamson Sutton Griffey, age 78, of Bristol, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026 at her residence under the care of Georgia Hospice.

Mrs. Griffey, born on August 9, 1947 and a native of Appling County, spent much of her life living in South Florida, before permanently returning to Appling County upon retirement. A lifelong nurse and caregiver, she served as an ER nurse, a school nurse, a hospice nurse and finally as a rehab and long-term care nurse. She retired from Lee Memorial Healthcare System and was a member of Antioch Congregational Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennings Bryant Williamson and Gladys Elizabeth Brantley Williamson, and her husbands, William M. “Bill” Sutton and Cloyd Ike Griffey.

Survivors include her daughter, Annette Herrington Bouknight of Glenside, PA; son, Paul Wayne Herrington of Lantana, FL; grandchildren, Amanda Roath, Adrian Bouknight, Krystyna Herrington, and Caitlyn Herrington; great grandchildren, Destyni Roath, William Roath, Joy Bouknight, Gabriella Bouknight, and Kally Herrington.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Chaplain Ryan Wilson officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
