Evans Joseph White, Sr.

Evans Joseph White, Sr., age 64, of Baxley passed away Monday, August 24, 2026 at his residence.

Evans was born on September 16, 1961 in Morgan City, Louisiana to the late U. L. White and the late Bernice Johnfroe White. He was a retired ship captain and was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenda Borne and Jo Jo White and his adopted mother, Meria Johnfroe.

Survivors include his wife, Susie White of Baxley; daughter, Christina Cohea (Deacon Cowart) of Baxley; three grandchildren, Aurora Stark, Delilah Cowart and Milani Cowart all of Baxley; sisters, Sherry Ann Borne of Louisiana, Rebecca White of Ohio, Melissa (George) Hand of Baxley, and Crystal Gienger of Louisiana; brothers, Marcel White of Texas and Damien (Dawn) Johnfroe of North Carolina; adopted father, Harold Johnfroe of August; and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Mitch Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Appling Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be Charlie Burkhalter, George Hand, Kaden Russell, Josh Giddens, Deacon Cowart and Wayne Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Sellers, Dr. Jason Laney and staff and all friends in attendance.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
