Bishop J. Stephen Statum, age 67, of Surrency passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
Bishop Statum was born June 30, 1957, in Marks, Mississippi to the late John Douglas Statum and the late Tommie Creola Statum. He spent his life in ministry serving the Lord. He was ordained as a Church of God Minister at the age of 18 on August 10, 1977 and as a Bishop on May 18, 1984. Over 3,000 recorded souls were converted or restored under his ministry. He also served as a chaplain for the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and is a past president of the Appling County Ministerial Alliance. He is preceded in death by his sister, Vicki S. Dunklin of Mobile, Alabama.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Statum of Surrency; Son, Jeremy Statum of Atlanta, and sister, Jaqueline S. (Todd) Davis of Brunswick. Three nephews, two nieces, three great nephews, and two great nieces also survive.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Baxley Church of God with Bishop Lamar Lee and Rev. Ronnie Rentz officiating.
The family will receive friends after the Memorial Service at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be all pastors and chaplains in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Hurricane Helene Relief for Appling County, Georgia via the Baxley Church of God (www.baxleycog.com).
