Malcolm James Evans

Malcolm James Evans, age 73, of Baxley passed away peacefully at his residence on July 26, 2026.

He was a native of Appling County and the son of the late Clinton and Virginia Lord Evans. He was educated in the Appling School System and a member of the 1971 graduating class. After years spent in high line construction he started his own company, Evans Substation Transmission Services, Inc.

Malcolm was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, whose warmth, generosity and love for life touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. A devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan, he proudly cheered on his team through every season. He found peace and happiness along the Altamaha River. He took great pride in his plants and was teased that he could plant a broom stick and grow brooms! An excellent cook, he loved preparing meals and firing up the grill for family and friends. For him good food was more than a meal - it was a way to bring people together and show how deeply he cared.

Above all Malcolm loved his wife, Sherry, his sons, M. J. and Clint, and his dogs were his babies and treasured members of his family. He was the go-to brother, the Rock. His friends were equally dear to him, and he had a special gift for making each person feel welcomed, valued and loved. Malcolm will be remembered for his loyal friendship, generous spirit, and the joy he found in life’s simple blessings - time with family, days on the river, a thriving garden, a Georgia Bulldogs game, dogs by his side, and friends gathered around the grill. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his many beloved friends, and all those lives were made brighter by knowing him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Mickey Evans and Jerry Carl Evans, and a sister, Jan Evans Hallman.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Kesler Evans, his precious sons, M. J. Evans (Summer Dean) and Clint Evans (Tony Wasden) all of Baxley; brothers, J. B. Evans of Alma, Larry Evans (Delores) of Surrency, Terry Evans (Tanya) of Baxley; sister, Judy Evans Folk (Kenny) of Moultrie; sister-in-law, Sharon Tillman Evans of Lavonia; and his cherished group of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and a special group of friends who are family.

The family will receive friends and celebrate Malcolm’s life on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
