Maria D. Nunez, age 86, of Baxley, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at her residence.

Mrs. Nunez was born on February 16, 1939, in Ahuijullo, Jalisco, Mexico, to the late Angel de la Mora Morfin and the late Natalia Valencia Chavez. She was a midwife by profession in Mexico and co-founder of the family business, Nunez Pine Straw. She was a devoted member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters, her husband, J. Guadalupe Nunez, and a granddaughter, Angelina de la Mora.

Survivors include her daughters, Maria N. Chavez (Pedro), Maria D. Cook (James, Sr.), and Norma Nunez-Cortes (Juan), all of Baxley; brothers, Trinidad de la Mora, Ramon de la Mora, and Adan de la Mora all of Mexico. Nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild also survive.

The visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 13, 2025, in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. Father Rafael Estrada will officiate.

Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Pedro Chaves, James Cook, Sr., Juan Cortes, James Cook, Jr, Chris Cook, and Albert Marquez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

María D. Núñez (Doña Carmen), de 86 años, residente de Baxley, falleció el miércoles 8 de octubre de 2025 en su residencia.

La Sra. Núñez (Doña Carmen) nació el 16 de febrero de 1939 en Ahuijullo, Jalisco, México, hija de los difuntos Ángel de la Mora Morfín y Natalia Valencia Chávez. Fue partera de profesión en México y cofundadora del negocio de la familia, Nunez Pine Straw. Fue una devota miembro de la Iglesia Católica, Santa Rosa de Lima. Le precedieron en la muerte 13 hermanos, su esposo, J. Guadalupe Núñez (Don Lupe), y su nieta, Angelina de la Mora (Gina).

Le sobreviven sus hijas, María N. Chávez (Pedro), María D. Cook (James, Sr.) y Norma Núñez-Cortés (Juan), todas residentes de Baxley. Sus hermanos, Trinidad de la Mora, Ramón de la Mora y Adán de la Mora, todos residentes de México. También le sobreviven nueve nietos, dieciséis bisnietos y un tataranieto.

La visita se llevará a cabo a la 1:00 p. m. del lunes 13 de octubre de 2025, en la capilla de la Funeraria Swain. La misa de cuerpo presente se celebrará a las 2:00 p. m. oficiará el Padre Rafael Estrada.

El entierro se realizará a continuación en el Cementerio Omega.

Los portadores del féretro serán Pedro Chaves, James Cook, Sr., Juan Cortés, James Cook, Jr., Chris Cook y Albert Márquez.
