Marilyn Johnson Bass, age 71, of Baxley passed away Monday, July 27, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
Mrs. Bass was born on October 7, 1954, in Appling County to the late Lannis Johnson and the late Louise Dubberly Johnson. She was an avid gardener who found great joy intending to her flowers. She also lovingly cared for her two cherished cats, Chance and Rusty. Above all, Mrs. Bass loved her Lord and treasured every moment spent with her family. A faithful member of First Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing in the church choir. Her kind spirit, beautiful smile, and devotion to her family and church will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Mickey Johnson and Lamar Johnson.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Guyton “Mickey” Bass; sons, Doug (Andrea) Bass and Corey (Melissa) Bass; sister, Janice (Dwight) Courson; brother, Tim (Cindy) Claxton; and grandchildren, Mattie (Justin) Young, Emily Bass, Corissa (Chancey) Vaughn; and Michael Bass. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Anderson and Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Bass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff Baxley, Randy Kimbrel, Casey Courson, Chris Courson, Dustin Johnson, and Jason Bass.
Honorary pallbearers will be Choir Members of First Baptist Church, Mark & Carol Barnes, Edie Baxley, June Kimbrel, Jimmy & Sally James, Steve & Marianne Rigdon, Mike & Margaret Redwine, Kelly & Joellen Stone, Gail Carter, James & Melanie Clark, Charles & Marsha Hart, Corey & Inez Lane, Scott & Greta Turner, Randall & Donna Odum, John & Whitney Irwin, Jennifer Cargile, Sylvia Harris, Teresa Rogers, and Ralph & Donna Devereaux.
Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2026, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to The Gideons International Appling Camp P.O. Box 403 Baxley, Georgia 31515.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Swain Funeral Home.
