Mary Knight Taylor Bedgood, age 82, of Baxley passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Pavilion.
Mrs. Bedgood was born in Wayne County on June 12, 1942 to the late Henry D. Knight and the late Lila Mae Harper Knight. Mary worked as a retail manager for Shirley’s Hallmark Gift Shop. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed laughing and making all those around her laugh as well. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lester Bedgood; infant son, Timothy Allen Taylor; son-in-law, Jimmy Chitty; three brothers, Henry Knight, Jr., Jack Knight, and William Knight, and three sisters, Addie Mae Wasdin, Martha Forbes, and Shirley Smoak.
Survivors include her three daughters, Elaine T. (Matt) Griffin of Odum, Holly T. Carter of Baxley, and Wendy T. Chitty of Baxley; two sons, Darrell (Susan) Taylor of Baxley, and David (Peggy) Taylor of Baxley; stepdaughter, Roxanne Pierce of Rincon; two stepsons, Andy (Marie) Bedgood of Rincon and Mitchell Bedgood of Atlanta; two sisters, Betty Thomas of Baxley, and Laura (Archie) Archuleta of Mt. Airy, Maryland, and sister in law, Esther Knight. Nine grandchildren, Josh (Amanda) Griffin, Jessica Griffin, Leslie (Derek) Reynolds, Ryan (Shandale) Taylor, Jordan Taylor (Chris), David Carter, Brooke (Bill) Cannon, Taylor (Brittany) Chitty, and Jamie Chitty. Thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Spring Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Lamb and Rev. Jonathan Mann officiating and a eulogy given by Josh Griffin. Interment will follow in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Griffin, Derek Reynolds, Ryan Taylor, Chris Addison, David Carter, Taylor Chitty, and Bill Cannon.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Women of Praise Sunday School Class, Appling Healthcare Pavilion staff and friends, Hospice of Southeast Georgia, and all friends and family in attendance.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to Hospice of South Georgia 1625 Sunset Blvd. Jesup, GA 31545.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
