Mildred Stone, age 78, of Baxley, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mildred “Mema” Stone was born April 29, 1945, in Appling County to the late Dutch Kersey and the late Isabell Mincey Dagget. She was a beloved wife, dedicated mother, and loving grandmother. Among many other things, she loved hallmark movies, crackling cornbread, and UGA football. Even in failing health, you could hear her cheering on the dawgs from a mile away. She was simultaneously the most caring and most stubborn person you could possibly meet, making her a force of nature to behold. Above all, she had such a giving heart. She couldn’t abide by anyone leaving her house empty handed or with an empty stomach. She loved her family viciously and inspired great love in return. Her legacy will live on in the ones she leaves behind. She will be carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved her forever.
Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband Waymon “Top” Stone; sister, Dorothy Thomas; four brothers, David Kersey, Willis Kersey, Charles Kersey, and Kenny Evans.
Survivors include her daughter, Janifier Gibbs; sons, Michael (Krista) Stone, and Robert Royal; sister, Betty Weaver; and two brothers, Jake Kersey and Roger Evans. Seven grandchildren, Christina Royal (Jonathan Best), Waymon Royal (Brittanie), Kylee Stone, Payton Stone, Jessie Stone, Jenni Brown, and Gavin Brown; and great grandchildren Brentley Royal, Liam Royal, Tyler Best, Alexis Best, and Jacob Best.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Justin McLellan officiating. Interment will follow in the Asbury Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Waymon Royal, Brentley Royal, Jonathan Best, Masson Kersey, Payton Stone, and Randy Evans.
