Oran Sanford Freeman, age 93, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at his home. Mr. Freeman was born January 16, 1931 in Washington County to Lester Freeman and Ollie Ross Freeman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Lester Monroe Freeman, Jr., Dr. G. Ross Freeman, Rev. Ramus G. Freeman, Maynard Freeman and a sister, Catherine Orr. Mr. Freeman was a member of Baxley First United Methodist Church and retired in-house draftsman for the Life Insurance Company of Georgia, after 37 years of service. He had an unwavering love for music as he was a former member of the Baxley Quartet and a gifted pianist and guitarist. He especially enjoyed singing with his daughter. He also loved tending his garden and yard and was extremely talented at woodworking and painting signs.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 72 years, Sara Freeman, a daughter; Boni (Scott) Howard of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, David Howard of Rock Hill, SC and Georgia Howard of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Charles Orr of Tennille, Felix (Vicki) Beck of Baxley and sisters-in-law, Betty (Jack) Colston, Grace Twiggs and Glenda Mims of Baxley, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. George R. Freeman officiating. Burial to follow at Zeta Cemetery in Tennille, Georgia at 4:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Orr and Andy Orr.
The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
