Richard Edward Reynolds, age 67, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at his residence.
Richard was born October 18, 1958 into a military family in Salina, Kansas, and the oldest of three sons to Roy Aubrey Reynolds and Carolyn Courson Reynolds. His early years were spent moving with his family, including time in Montana and Texas, before they eventually returned to his father’s hometown of Baxley. He graduated from Appling County High School in 1978.
In 1980, Richard married Janice Lewis. They attended Bridgeford Church of God, where Richard played on the men’s basketball team. They welcomed their daughter in 1981 and their son in 1984.
From a young age, Richard was taught a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life. He spent many years as a dedicated truck driver with Walmart Distribution and, in recent years, worked part-time with Murray Logging. He was known to many by his CB handle, “Cornbread.” He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and never complained about the sacrifices he made.
A simple man, Richard was an avid outdoorsman who found peace in hunting, fishing, and working on the family farm. Most days, he could be found outside from daylight to dark. He was the kind of man you wanted by your side if you needed to “live off the land.” He believed deeply in keeping his word and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Richard was a proud father and grandfather. He wanted nothing more than for his children to succeed in life while being able to stay close to their own families, something he valued deeply. He loved conversation and made friends wherever he went. It didn’t take long in speaking with him to hear about his children and grandchildren, who he considered his greatest accomplishment.
Survivors include his children, Holly Reynolds and Kyle (Candace) Reynolds both of Hazlehurst; brother, Dennis Reynolds (Elizabeth) of Hoschton and Mike Reynolds (Lynne) of Texas; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home in Hazlehurst with Rev. Rick Brown and Rev. Darron Jackson officiating.
The visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service.
Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Though his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, his legacy of hard work, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will live on in the lives he touched. His memory will forever be cherished, and the lessons he passed down will continue to guide those who knew him best.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Swain Funeral Home, Hazlehurst Chapel.
