While in the Army, Mr. Cain completed his degree at the University of Georgia and later retired from the Army in 1992 at the rank of Major.

After retirement, Mr. Cain returned to his home in Appling County where he continued to serve both the local community and the county at large. His service to the county actually began when he was a teenager. He shared his musical talents with the community at various events and activities. Mr. Cain was a perfectionist, a superior leader and a “doer.” He was involved in a wide variety of activities in the local community. He had unique computer skills which he gladly shared with anyone who needed help and was a computer consultant for several local businesses. Mr. Cain served on the Appling County Board of Elections and as treasurer of the Consolation Baptist Association. He was a member of the Baxley Lions Club, the Georgia Association of Voter Registration & Election Officials, a Mason, and the cemetery sexton for Appling Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cain was a loving and devoted husband, father, relative, and friend.
