Roy Lewis, age 82 of Baxley passed away Friday, May 9, 2025 at his residence under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.
Mr. Lewis was born May 14, 1942 in Appling County to the late George Thomas Lewis and the late Annie Orvin Lewis. He was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Lewis was a heavy equipment operator and a farmer. He was a member of the National Beagle, Fox, and Coyote Association and Southeast Beagle Club. Mr. Lewis received many Beagle Awards from field trials. His expertise in raising and training beagles for hunting and competitions and his love for the sport caused him to be entitled, “The Great White Hunter” by family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Stephanie Dominy, and his siblings, Maggie Lee Sellers, Loyce Smith, Katie Mae Jones, Robert Lee Lewis, James Lewis, Donald Lewis, Carroll Lewis, Walter Marion Lewis, and David Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Bonita Hallman Lewis of Baxley; stepdaughter, Jessica (Wayne) Howell-Wayt of Houston, TX; sisters, Ann Vincent of Douglas and Brenda Barbos of Romania; Eight step grandchildren, Tasha (Joe) Oxendine, Tabitha Buck, Gregory Spell, Joey (Brittany) Spell, Brianna (Eric) Trudell, Brittany Hardee, Aubrey Howell, Ava Howell; several step great grandchildren. Mr. Lewis is also survived by his many nieces and nephew.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Bryant Bishop and Rev. Brian Brazzell officiating and a eulogy by Ronnie Lewis.
Interment will follow in Altamaha Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jeffery Lewis, Mike Lewis, Billy Sellers, Dale Smith, Chris Lewis and Tommy Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie & Diane Mann, Carroll & Jannie Hand, Lawrence “Pee Wee” Edwards, Joe Reynolds, David Reynolds, Bob Christian, Craig Eugene Stone, Edward Rowell, Rodney Carter, Darrell Summerall, Troy Collins, Kenny & Bonnie Johnson, Kenny & Pat Collins, H.B. Orvin, J.W. Orvin, Gary & Tammy Orvin, Danny & Brenda Orvin, Charlie Warnock, Rhoda Warren and Mary Burke.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
