Mr. Terry Dan Taylor, age 80, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Born on February 1, 1944, in Boone County, Illinois, Mr. Taylor was the son of the late Daniel Arlas Taylor and Barbara Ann Taylor (Bauer). He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Marie Taylor (Vahl), his sister, Judy Taylor, his son, Joseph Adam Taylor, and his grandson, Trace Lawrence Lee.
Mr. Taylor grew up in the small town of Belvidere, Illinois. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army for four years, he committed his life to Christ, a decision that would shape his life and legacy. He became an active and devoted member of his church, serving in various capacities, including the music ministry, where he shared his passion for worship through song.
In 1984, Mr. Taylor moved with his wife, Dorothy, and their six children to South Georgia. He balanced a full-time career as a skilled tool and die maker in the manufacturing industry with raising his family, instilling in them the values of hard work and faith.
For 18 years, Mr. Taylor faithfully pastored Liberty Baptist Church, now Liberty Community Church, in Hazlehurst. Known for his compassionate heart and genuine nature, he never met a stranger and delighted in meaningful conversations. His greatest joy was sharing the Gospel, ministering to others, and leading people to Christ.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his brother, Ken Taylor (Diane) of California, and his sister, Jackie Taylor Triblehorne of Colorado. He is also survived by his children: Daniel Robert Taylor (Mandi) of Hazlehurst, Victoria Taylor Davis of Hazlehurst, Deborah Taylor Rowland (Shawn) of Hazlehurst, Barbara Taylor Smith (Brad) of Savannah, and Terri Taylor of Hazlehurst.
He leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Abbi Taylor, Brett Taylor, Ashton Taylor, Annalynn Taylor, Miles Rowland, Kerrington Rowland, Izzy Smith, Paxton Smith, Carsynn Taylor, Graci Taylor, Zoie Taylor, Kross Taylor, Maclay Taylor, and Grey Taylor. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Liberty Community Church in Hazlehurst. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Jeffery Spell and Rev. Wally Barber. Inurnment will take place in the Liberty Community Church Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at the residence of Mr. Taylor’s son, Danny Taylor, at 10 Cypress Hill Circle, Hazlehurst, Georgia, 31539.
