Wanda Altman Ammons, age 87, of Baxley passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
Ms. Ammons was born July 24, 1937 in Jeff Davis County to the late Lotis J. Altman and the late Edna Morris Altman. She retired from the Appling County Board of Education with 31 years of experience. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and the Appling County Retired Educators. Ms. Ammons was a life member of the Georgia Association of Educators and National Educators Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy L. Altman; brother-in-law, Howard Beecher; and a grandson-in-law, Dusty Smith.
Survivors include her children, Lisa (Glynn) Pearce of Surrency and Jim (Cathy) Ammons of Baxley; sister, JoAnn Beecher of Baxley; sister-in-law, Linda Altman of Baxley; grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Jana (Watson) Bevill, Jamie (Kelley) Ammons, Devin (Sarah) Pearce, Jeremy (Kaitlyn) Ammons, and Jason (Bailey) Ammons; and nine great grandchildren. Her caregivers, Teresa Rogers, Sylvia Harris, and Betty Mims Howard also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Williamson, Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. Brannen Pate, and Rev. Ron Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Michael Beecher, Jeffery Altman, Mitchell Altman, Jamie Ammons, Jeremy Ammons, Jason Ammons, Devin Pearce, Watson Bevill, and Cole Altman.
Honorary pallbearers will be all friends in attendance.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church Building Fund (c/o Tammie Lott 6605 Nails Ferry Road Baxley, Georgia 31513).
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
