William Nicholas Hamilton "Nick" Grimes

William Nicholas Hamilton Grimes, age 86, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Mr. Grimes was born April 14, 1938 in Richmond, Indiana to the late Robert Grimes and the late Mildred Lucille Hamilton Grimes. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Aura Sears Grimes. Mr. Grimes was a member of Melton’s Chapel Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. In 1957, he received the American Spirit Medal at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Grimes graduated from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service and was a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He previously served as Coroner of Appling County.

Survivors include his daughters, Sara L. (Tom) Marren of Baxley and Dr. Harriet (John) Strahlman of Monterey, TN; son, William N. “Bill” (Kera) Grimes of Baxley; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grimes Residence: 3844 Ben Carter Road Baxley, Georgia 31513. Rev. Garry Cheek and Rev. Gary Page will officiate.
