William Thomas “Tom” Oliver, age 87, of Hazlehurst passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Appling Healthcare.
Mr. Oliver, born April 29, 1939, in McRae, Georgia, was the beloved son of the late Preston Oliver and Eva Mae Bass Oliver. A devoted member of First Baptist Church, he spent his career as a Bread Route Driver with Derst Baking, where he was known for his hard work and friendly spirit.
He found joy in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden, and he was a proud supporter of Jeff Davis baseball. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, creating memories that will be held close forever.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dennis Oliver and Larry Oliver.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sara Jane Oliver of Hazlehurst; daughters, Sharon Rene (Gary) Brown and Sheila Lynn (Tim) Cook, both of Hazlehurst; and brother, John Oliver of Claxton. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Hazlehurst First Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Waters and Kolby Brown officiating. Internment will follow in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Brent Merrit, Brandon Merrit, Mark Oliver, Will Oliver, Rod Oliver, Gary Anderson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Davis High School Class of 1957.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Hazlehurst First Baptist Church, 30 N. Tallahassee St, Hazlehurst, Georgia, 31539
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Swain Funeral Home.
